About Us

  • The Team

After many years working in the pet care industry, KM Dog Days was created when the dog care company that had employed us previously (Discover Dogs) made the difficult choice to discontinue providing walking services in Dec 2017. Because we truly loved the work we did and valued the bonds we had made with the dogs, we put the offer out to a handful of clients to continue to walk their dogs. They were all thrilled we had offered, and we launched KM Dog Days walking and sitting services in Jan 2018.

Since then, our client base has grown and changed, but we’ve utilized our knowledge, skills, and experience to provide a high standard of care for all of the dogs that we have on our roster.

    What Sets Us Apart

Training reinforcement on walks. We work with our dogs on basic commands, on leash and off leash skills development, and ensure appropriate socialization between dogs. We use positive reinforcement methods to gain your dogs enthusiasm and trust.

Small group sizes (6 dogs maximum). We make sure our groups are manageable for 1 person to handle and that each dog receives the attention needed to ensure a mentally stimulating and fulfilling walk, while developing individual bonds with each dog along the way.

Safety is top of mind. All dogs are required to wear a harness on walks, and all dogs are secured in the car by their harness and a tether in case of an accident. We ensure safety on walks by keeping our groups small and manageable, and keeping our dogs out of unsafe situations.

On leash skills development. Every walk starts with a portion of practicing on leash skills, where we work on walking with a loose leash, command engagement, and focus around distractions.

Off leash skills development. We work on reliable recalls, reinforcing appropriate off leash social skills with other dogs, and setting dogs up for success by not exposing them to overstimulating or unsafe situations. We have taken many dogs from being on leash to off leash using a structured off leash training plan.

Reactive dog experience. Thanks to years of experience and incredible mentorship, we are confident working with reactive dogs and employ positive reinforcement techniques including counter conditioning, redirection, and desensitization through careful, controlled exposure to triggers to curb reactivity.

  • Micah Field (He/Him)

Since 2012 my life has been dogs. It started with walking my neighbour’s dogs and realizing how much joy they can bring people. I then started working for local superstars Discover Dogs as a dog walker and pet sitter where I learned helpful skills for how to better exercise, train, and comfort our furry friends.

Gaining more of an understanding for how canine behaviour works and having more insight into what’s going on inside their brains only deepened my love for them. It’s been over a decade now that I’ve been working with pups and I am incredibly grateful for what they’ve been able to teach me and for the nourishment I’ve been able to provide them. Through using positive reinforcement and treat based training integrated into walks I’ve been able to make a difference in many dogs lives. It is important to foster a positive atmosphere for a pup to flourish and grow. As well it is also important to provide a structure of discipline and boundaries to help teach a dog what is acceptable and what isn’t. Finding the balance between these two things can be tricky, but it is what I would consider the most important element of having a happy, balanced dog.

In 2023 after taking care of other peoples’ dogs for over a decade and wanting my own dog for even longer, I adopted one. Finn, a blue heeler X, a rescue from Mexico, has lit up my life and taught me even more about what it means to care for another creature. He is goofy and hilarious, wise and intelligent, and a calming soul. What he has been able to teach me has furthered the skills I am able to bring to my work with dogs.

I would love to take your dog on an adventure!

My heart has belonged to the dogs since childhood, starting first with my family dog when I was 9 years old, and growing more with the hundreds of dogs I’ve met and worked with since then.

My dog care career started in 2014 when I landed a job at 18 years old as an animal care attendant at a boarding facility just outside my hometown of Edmonton, AB. Because I was responsible for the care, exercise, and other needs for a high volume of a variety of dogs during this time, my understanding of dog social dynamics, body language, and behaviour developed quickly.

After a few years, I craved a change and made the move to Vancouver, BC where I quickly found work as a dog walker and pet sitter for Discover Dogs, a local pet care company. I received invaluable training during my time there from some incredible mentors, developing skills in force-free dog handling, group management, and positive reinforcement dog training. It was during this time that I met Micah, who was also working there. A few years later, KM Dog Days was born!

I’ve also worked part time in the dog retail space for Discover Dogs, where my product knowledge (training tools, nutrition, life enrichment products, etc) grew. My understanding of the components to create a healthy, happy, balanced dog all came together like pieces falling into place.

Only bring up dog ‘stuff’ with me if you have 30 minutes to spare to have your ear talked off!
